Belonging. A Word That Holds So Much.
It’s more than a buzzword. Belonging is a deep, human need — a sense of being seen, heard, and valued.
Its origin, from the Old English “belangian,” means to be connected with. And isn’t that what we all seek?
For me, that sense of connection is clearest during my monthly book club gatherings. These aren’t just literary discussions — they’re sacred spaces of vulnerability, authenticity, and acceptance.
But here’s the truth: before you can truly belong anywhere else, you must belong to yourself.
The journey to belonging starts inward.
Writing is one of the most powerful tools for this. It allows us to explore our truths, reflect on our past, and begin to understand and embrace who we are.
When we write honestly, we connect deeply with ourselves. And when we share those words, we invite others in. That’s how writing helps with self-acceptance — and how it nurtures belonging.
Every sentence we write is an act of ownership.
Every story we share is a bridge to connection.
I’ve built communities through book clubs, writing workshops, and mastermind circles. Every one of them rests on the belief that belonging is built through brave storytelling.
In these spaces, people don’t just share writing. They share parts of themselves.
And when they do, others listen — not to judge, but to connect.
If you’ve ever felt out of place, I want you to hear this:
You are not alone.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to be honest.
Write your story. Embrace it. Then let it be seen.
Belonging doesn’t start when someone welcomes you in — it starts the moment you welcome yourself.
So this season, reflect on your journey.
Write your truth.
And share it, knowing you’re not only making peace with yourself — you’re building community.
