What my readers are saying about “You are allowed – a memoir”
I really enjoyed this book. As the book progressed, I had a hard time putting it down. There was a poetic style to the writing that I enjoyed. The author offered a glimpse into a culture that I was not familiar with. And a glimpse into the lives of moms in a complicated adoptive/biological mom struggle. I felt the pain and hurt of her adoptive mother as her daughter’s journey to find her biological mom began. I felt her hurt and confusion as to why her daughter felt the need to find her birth mom. And I found her birth mom’s reaction to meeting her daughter unexpected. It’s a good read!

I’ve always enjoyed memoirs and learning about the lives of others. As I read I felt I was part of the story feeling all the emotions of Esther as she discovered the many challenges that are faced in a young girl’s life through adulthood. Her story made me laugh and cry with an ending that touched my heart.

The author wrote her story as if it was about someone else. Creating more intimacy between the characters and the reader. It is a must read autobiography for these times of the #MeToo movement.
